Many people working in corporate America often put on a “certain face” when they go into the office because they feel that the reality of their true identity is not accepted within that particular environment. This often times leads to what I call “conformed compromise” which is a defense mechanism used in order to protect a job/career that one feels they need in order to justify a specific personal image.
Once they leave the office, they feel that they are “free” to remove the mask of their facade and return back to themselves. This becomes a continual cycle of facades where truth is exchanged for a lie because the lie supposedly keeps the bills paid, the children fed, and the wife happy. Another word that can be used to describe this is “paradox.” I believe that the personalities of people often shift from different merisms and vicissitudes based upon the situations and circumstances that life presents.
The apprehension in all this is that the strength of the human spirit which God has placed in each of us will become distant and dismal because we will not envision life without the mirage of “safety” that the paradox contains. It is the dependence upon the perceived paradox that keeps the human spirit from stretching beyond the shackles of its own expectation and venturing into a life of liberty and freedom that is refreshingly transformative.
Jesus is the only one who can show you how to use faith to destroy the fear of the unknown. Trust Him and allow him to destroy the paradox!
